Diversion Tatics

Using atom model for this entry.
Whereby, I represent the interaction a human has to the world as akin to that of an atom.

Why do I think there are similarities.

Well firstly the atom is small and is influenced by many factors from the outside world.

Secondly, it has many layers just like Human psyche. For instance, the different ego shells that we use to define to self in our surroundings.

Now in the model, the outer world will judge  not by the nucleus but by the outer edge. Some lucky friends may learn more about your other shells. But for the most part, it will be a battle between the outer shell and the people on the outside.

This creates a number of potential problems:
- Do we search the world to find more people that like our outer shell /nuclues
- Do we just be own individual and just ignore the battle cries from the other
- Do we let down our guard and trust people will see you and nucleus is good
- Is pain good or bad and in what situation

How about if lacking in confidence of what is the right. I noticed the comment fake to you make it used a lot. Is there potentially a lot more people doing this then we think. For instance could the people that say that they are really authentic actually trying to divert people from a void that they do not know how to handle things.

Satan The Devil - Home | FacebookHow about using diversion tatics. This is where you essentially play out your cards down in a way that the people you don't want stay away and the one you are likely to trust stay.

There probably lots of ways this can be done but just as an example. - Say you get a devil tattoo. the people that see the outer shell may see you as some sort of bad person. The tattoo is actually irrelevant to your character (As long as you have not convinced your nucleus the same thing). So now just left with the people genuine interested in learning.

In the same way the person may have many have countless diversion tactics up there sleeve. And so it good for self protection. The risk however is that in the jumping and dancing around you actually miss out on the chance to genuinely connect. As ultimately, other people will judge you on character just as much as the vice versa.

More than words

So often the Martin Luther King I have a dream speech is quoted in all sorts of places from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. And though I must admit I can see why the quotes in the speech do sound quite inspiring.....to me I have always found this speech just that little bit more inspiring

Considering now why that could be the case,  I think for me the whole I have a dream notion taken literally is just blanket words. And in terms of the change process I would say it probably say it be only the first step after things like pondering, doing nothing etc. However, blanket terms do not necessarily influence society (akin to shouting "world peace" at your tv) it needs a movement of passionate people with the reserve to hold strong against those system that resist change.

But yeh back to the video it has a slightly religious theme but I think it quite apparent an absence of fear while demonstrate considerable care for people without caring for people say or do if that makes any sense.

And just a video and song to finish

Levels & XP

What defines us be that to ourselves or to other. One approach that could be used is a labeling people into categories based on class, XP equivalent to the Pokemon world. In this post I explore what would happen if such a model was used.

If the model was used it would need to break up the human experience (XP) into discrete set of package which relate to socially agreed acheivement/characteristics (boosters/evaluations). Accumulating booster over time will improve the XP for the human. Particular characterstics have bonus points attached positivism, wealth etc

To demonstrate this model in practice I have shown the evolution path of the mispelt Charmanda and compared it to the evolution path of Joe Bloggs.
the An overly simplistic model of  of the Human Pokedex XP results that would be used to evaluate Joe Blogs is shown in the second diagram. Joe Bloggs has 4 boosters in his life time thus far.

Some observations on the model.

Pretty much all natural processes happen continuously not in discrete jumps as per below. So would using two Pokemon based mean focusing to much on evolving and not on appreciating the non-booster points of being Chameleon etc

Could the model be used to evaluate the path of the greatest XP ?

Could the model acacount for some of the manifestation of the confusion of self/ego etc. Could a everyone be trying to be Pikachu  ?

If everyone is using such model does it lead to increased labeling, preducing and judging and closedness of humans. How much more effort would be people be spending shrugging a label or confining to the stereotype of the model.

But yeh a society with social constructs is a bit unrealistic for the time being. One approach discussed in the Matrix is to complete detach one self from such constructs.

Everyone wants to be like Mike

During the younger years people are faced with that question of what do they do when they are older. Do they feel inspired to follow the career path of someone the know ? Do they want save the Forests ? Fight for justice ? Work Outdoors ? Run a noodle shop ? What is there dream job ?

One of the main influence on the person career is how they perceive the world. One psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment. It essentially labels people with a four letter acronym based on which subcategories they fall into. For instance ISFJ represents someone with a psychological preference for Intuition, Sensing, Feeling and Judging. I ISFJ personality type are considered to have the personality preference suited to caring for people accordingly are most likely to enjoy and be suited to nurturing roles. There around 14 % of people with this personality preference.

I have performed a similar analysis of all 16 personality types in the table below. I have also included details of the average salary of the typical occupation that would be most enjoyed by that particular personality type.

Some observations were that there was marked difference between the average salary across personality types. In general it appears that job market paid valued the N suited roles (Intuition) more than the S suited roles (Sensing). Similarly, it appeared to be higher value placed on Extravert and Thinking roles.

If the job market is pricing particular personality types over others does this result in a society that will over time encourage people to grow up into having a particular personality type. Ie. in say a century would we have moved across to a society with a natural or learned personality type focused on being detached, pursuit of goals, detached ?

Then there the question why in particular occupations there such drive for everyone to be the person *Leading* people in their department. Is there an innate desire in everyone to be the head chef ? Like given there only 1.8% of people with the personality type that actually prefers such tasks it does seem that people are basically spending alot of the time doing course after course, up skiling and competing with other people to do a job that isnt even in the area which actually motivates them. Though saying that leadership roles do pay higher by society/job pricing market which probably explains the behaviour.

On the other end of the spectrum why are caring and helping jobs so devalued by society. A potential reason is that alot of society actually fall into these more caring/helping personality types. And so  with the numbers there be alot of people that would still be keen to work in these areas despite the pay.

The last thing I have done is look at what is viewed as the best job after factoring in stress, pay, creativity, work environment etc. It was generally found that the sweet spot was roles in science and university. I couldnt find some jobs in the top 200 (Police and Psychologist) even though they are probably some of the most crucial roles in society.

So yeh that just a bit of rambling on the jobs and personalities. In a bit of an over-simplistic model of one (of the many influences) effecting career decisions but would go some way to answering questions like why there seems such a different in personalities between Lawyers and Artists.

Speaking of personality preference sometimes people themselves dont know what there is so would suggest a test like this :P

Sharks

One thing that has been a little topical where I live over the past few months is Sharks and more specifically sharks attacking people.

The size of the issue seems quite big and complex with alot of people contributing. A number of members of community were demanding safer beaches. Businesses were becomming concerned that sharks discussions could potentially effect tourism. There were animals groups who were discussing animal rights and the importance of Sharks to the ecosystem. Government were putting considerable money into investing what could be done. University were also looking into ther own such innovative ideas as a  shark deterrent websuit .

This surge in popularity may suggest there been a large increase in shark deaths and fatalities. To investigate of tis was indeed the case I have sourced the Australia shark death and fatalities data between 2000 and 2013 from http://sharkattackfile.info. It was evident that there was not a significantly higher number of shark attack/deaths in the last couple of years. Although there does apear to have been a gradual rise in Shark Attacks from around 2-3 early 2000 to 7 in 2013 in the WA figures.

So what could explain the surge in focus in Sharks. As somewhere along the lines alot of people allocated more time thinking about sharks. I know I for one was exposed through reading quite a few news articles . But then how about 5 deaths in 2011. Was I just not reading the paper that year ? I did an analysis from factiva of all the times an article was published in "The Australian" newspaper with the word Shark in it (refer below). It was noted that there has been an increasing amount of material written about sharks but there was not a significant increase in 2013.

So what could be potential scenarios explaining the huge spike in Shark popularity in WA ? Could the closeness of the 2 deaths  (Nov & Dec 2013) and location (both in WA) lead to higher amount of fear and attention than previous shark attacks. The end result of the increased concern in sharks was that the government decided on opting for quite controversial shark baiting technique.

But does make me wonder
What are the key influences of society sentiment ?
How large an influence is society sentiment on government decisons ?
Does the society sentiment influence what the media outputs or is it the other way around ?
