A interesting question would be who is more like an angel and who is more like a devil. In the battle scenes lets first assume that there is one character more demon like then the other. What that means is that they are more likely to use unlawful measures to win and probably have accumulated a number of fighting skills from all their fights while the Angel is more younger in these areas. So how does an angel beat a demon at their own game. Well to me it seems that the angel will need preparation and not just through reading religious text but also other measures such as fighting skills, life philosophy. gym work. They then go to fight the demon.
The problem is that the Angel is having to resort to a bit of the demon way to beat they demon. It hard to come out of this unscathed. If they are hurt who can they call for repair. Well in heaven I am assuming this will be all sorted. But in our dimension the Angel will need a support crew. Essentially, angels to pull the spirit level back.
I have noticed this short fable of a person tackling something for the greater good and being sucked into a hole is all to familiar. Howl's Moving Castle is one such movie but many other stories exist. In the real world is it common people are taking on battles against demon they see on the outside all the time. Having support crew is quite critical to ensure that the person does not succumb to the system.
